Advanced Material Development (AMD) is delighted to announce that it has signed a further contract with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). AMD’s Radar absorbing technology is now being incorporated by AMD into foam panels and will be used by JPL during the system level electromagnetic compatibility test for the Europa Clipper spacecraft later this year.

The Europa Clipper spacecraft will perform dozens of close flybys of Jupiter’s moon Europa, gathering detailed measurements from multiple instruments, including the radar instrument, to investigate whether the moon could have conditions suitable for life. Europa Clipper’s primary objective is to determine whether there are places below Europa’s surface that could support life.

Commenting on the collaboration, AMD’s Chief Commercial Officer, Richard Lee said, “It is hugely exciting to take the next steps with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the Europa space programme. Importantly this is a major step in that AMD will now be manufacturing the product for JPL - following an initial successful testing phase. AMD sees this as major verification of the effectiveness of our solutions in the area of radar absorbance and reflection.”

JPL is a research and development laboratory federally funded by NASA and managed by the California Institute of Technology. To find out more about JPL visit https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/
