AMD is proud to unite with a group of UK businesses on a joint mission to reduce waste and build consumer confidence in food supply chains through innovation in data and technology.

Alongside eleven other UK companies who have been awarded funding by the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) for a ‘Manufacturing Made Smarter’ project, AMD will be applying its knowledge of next generation nanomaterials science to the development of smart, sustainable packaging and tracking solutions.

The project, known as SecQuAL (Secure Quality Assured Logistics for Digital Food Ecosystems) is a consortium of experts across technology, software and systems, food production and supply chain regulation and assurance, which aims to digitally enable the food ecosystem, to improve food safety, reduce waste and strengthen consumer confidence in the food they purchase and consume.

John Lee, Chief Executive Officer of AMD, said: "This award is a tremendous development for AMD and its leading researchers. To be part of such a major investment by government and industry in the search for game-changing solutions in the manufacturing supply chain, particularly within the critical food sector, places materials science and AMD with its Sussex University team at the cutting edge of innovation."

AMD will meet the challenge head on through novel nanomaterial inks for UHF RFID and photonic crystal time-temperature indicators which will aide SecQuAL to develop effective data capturing, sharing, integrity and governance, and integrating assurance standards.
